Hostage situation ends after SWAT team enters Wheaton bank

SWAT team members rushed the bank about 4:15 p.m. Two loud booms were heard shortly before officers rushed into the Wheaton Bank & Trust, at 211 S. Jamar Simpson, 23, of Wheaton, an employee of the Wheaton Bank & Trust, at 211 S. Wheaton Ave., said he was told that a man had grabbed a policeman's gun and ran into the bank. Simpson, who was on lunch break when the incident happened about 1 p.m., said there were about 10 people working at the bank at the time of the incident. The City of Wheaton confirmed in a news release that a hostage situation is taking place at the bank involving one suspect. Police had stopped train traffic around the area but reopened tracks about 4:30 p.m. Trains on Metra's Union Pacific West Line between Chicago and Elburn may be delayed five to 10 minutes due to the situation, said Metra spokesman Tom Miller.
